Privacy policy

Last updated: 13 October 2026

This policy applies to the LingoTrip app and the website lingotrip.app. The German version is legally binding.

1. Controller

Digital First UG (haftungsbeschränkt)
Am Lippeglacis 2
46483 Wesel, Germany
Email: support@lingotrip.app

2. What the app processes

We do not collect location data, contacts or photos. The app contains no advertising and no analytics or tracking services.

3. Purposes and legal basis

We process this data to create your course, evaluate the exercises and save your progress (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR, performance of the user agreement). We process log data to ensure secure and stable operation (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

4. Servers

Data is stored on servers of Hetzner Online GmbH in Germany, with whom a data processing agreement under Art. 28 GDPR is in place.

5. Content created with AI

Follow-up questions, course plan and lessons are generated by the AI service Claude from Anthropic PBC (USA). For this we transmit the details of your trip and your answers to the follow-up questions, but not your first name or your device ID. A data processing agreement with Anthropic is in place or being concluded. Transfers to the USA are covered by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. Under Anthropic’s terms, the transmitted data is not used to train AI models.

6. Speech output and speech recognition

Phrases are read aloud by your device’s speech output. No data is sent to us for this.

When you speak a phrase in an exercise, the app uses your operating system’s speech recognition (Apple on iPhone, Google on Android). The microphone is only active while you have started a recording. Depending on device and language, the recording is recognised on the device or sent to Apple or Google for recognition; their privacy policies apply. The app compares the recognised text with the target phrase on the device.

Pronunciation check: So that the app can show which sounds were off, it sends the recording of the spoken phrase to our server at Hetzner in Germany. There it is compared sound by sound with the target phrase using our own speech model, in memory only and without being stored. The app receives a score per word and sound. The recording is not passed on to third parties, not used for training and not used to identify you. The legal basis is Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR (providing the practice feature). We do not store the recognised text; our server also learns whether the exercise was correct, wrong or skipped.

Your device asks for permission before using the microphone and speech recognition. You can revoke it at any time in the settings; all other exercises keep working.

7. Push reminders

If you turn on the daily reminder, your device asks for permission first. We then store a push token for your device as well as the chosen time and time zone. At the chosen time our server sends a short message with what is due in your course today. If you have already practised that day, nothing is sent.

The message is delivered via the push service of 650 Industries, Inc. (Expo, USA) and from there via Apple or Google. Only the push token and the text of the message are transmitted. The legal basis is your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR). You can turn off the reminder in the app or block notifications in your device settings at any time.

8. Purchases

The course plan and the first day are free. You unlock the remaining days with a one-time purchase via the Apple App Store or Google Play. We do not receive any payment details; Apple’s or Google’s terms apply.

To process and verify purchases we use RevenueCat (RevenueCat, Inc., USA). This involves your account ID with us, the purchased product and the store’s transaction data, but no name and no trip details. We store which purchase unlocked which course (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). Transfers to the USA are covered by the EU Standard Contractual Clauses.

9. Retention and deleting your data

We keep your account, courses and progress for as long as you use the app. We do not store voice recordings at all: they are discarded right after the evaluation, on the device, at most the last three stay in the app’s cache until newer ones overwrite them. You can delete everything yourself at any time: in the app under Settings → “Delete my data”. This completely removes your account, courses, lessons and progress from the server and the device ID from your device. Alternatively, an email to support@lingotrip.app is enough.

10. This website

lingotrip.app sets no cookies and loads no content from third-party servers. When you visit, the server processes technically necessary data (IP address, time, page requested, browser) to deliver the page and detect attacks (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).

11. Your rights

You have the right of access (Art. 15 GDPR), rectification (Art. 16), erasure (Art. 17), restriction of processing (Art. 18), data portability (Art. 20) and to object (Art. 21). An email to support@lingotrip.app is enough.

You can also lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority. The authority responsible for us is the Landesbeauftragte für Datenschutz und Informationsfreiheit Nordrhein-Westfalen, Kavalleriestraße 2–4, 40213 Düsseldorf, Germany.

12. Changes

We update this policy when the processing changes. The version published here applies.
